Do your partners add value?

There are two types of businesses in this world. Margin takers and value adders.

For more than 50 years here at Fleetwood, our best work has consistently come when we’ve been working with the latter. We’ve always endeavoured to do exactly the same for our own clients too – using our skills, experience and resources to proactively add value to projects at every opportunity. In fact, doing this continues to be a major KPI for our team members, right across the business.

Value is a mindset

Sure, the easy path on a project may be to do the bare minimum and take a cut. But, for us, this isn’t the right path. We never settle for doing just an ‘okay’ job. We want to deliver an outstanding job for you and your team. Every time.

From the initial design to final handover, we’re constantly asking ourselves: what’s best for your project? As individuals and as a team, are we leaving your project better than how we found it? If we can say ‘yes’, fantastic. We’ve added value. If not, we use it as the catalyst to think and push even harder.

Great value begins with great understanding

Whether it’s a bridge or boardwalk, shade structure or play space, the first thing we always try to build with you is understanding. We avoid the temptation to rush in. Rather, we invest the time and energy, right up front, to gain a genuine appreciation of your critical project variables and objectives.

Knowing these, we then work together to determine the most effective ways to realise them in alignment with your defined program, budget and vision. You can’t put a value on that!

Value and price are different things

To some extent, price will always be a consideration on projects, and rightly so. We completely understand there are times when it really is about ‘hitting a number’. But typically we find these aren’t the type of projects where we truly excel as we’re simply unable to add a lot of value. Hand on heart, if a low price is your main selection criteria, it is likely you will find more suitable suppliers out there.

This is why our focus has shifted away from price-driven open tenders in recent years, especially those requiring more generic outdoor structures with minimal connection or consideration to their local context. It’s also why we remain extremely wary of cutting corners in pursuit of short-term project savings. Time and again, experience tells us this will only cost stakeholders far more money (and potentially reputational damage) down the track.

Instead, with projects under more financial scrutiny than ever, we use our decades of experience and extensive network of trusted partners and suppliers to help you optimise every dollar of your budget at every stage. Smarter designs. More innovative materials. More efficient processes. These can all bring tremendous value to your project, delivering a fantastic outcome without the need for compromise. I firmly believe this is what Fleetwood does best.

Putting value first for over 50 years

These days we know you have many choices when selecting design and delivery partners for your outdoor projects. That’s why, rather than merely subtracting a margin, we’re more determined than ever to bring real value to everything we do for you.

It might be something big. It might be only small. But, either way, adding value continues to be our single greatest differentiator at Fleetwood. It has set us apart since we first opened our doors back in 1972. And it always will.

Why not give us a call to discuss how we can add value to your next project?

“Life would be easy for designers if you could just ignore the cultural and environmental sensitivities of a site,” chuckles Fleetwood Creative & Technical Lead, Mark Jol. “You could just bulldoze everything and start from a blank page! But that’s not how we do things at Fleetwood.”

The outdoors. It used to be the only place Aussie kids wanted to spend their time. But the digital age has surrounded us with technology at every turn. Screen time is up and green time is down – and the risks are very real.
