Schaffitzel + Miebach created this meandering curved bridge with steel pylons to allow cyclists in the Western Dutch town to cross a busy highway to a nature reserve on the IJsselmeer.
Incorporating cables and asymmetric pin pylons, a floating impression is created, which favours the low weight of the timber parts. Lateral stability is afforded by utilising precast concrete elements. The prarapet is made from steel.
At 75 metres in length and 3 metres in width, this particular bridge design proves the beautiful flexibility of timber.
