This structure is the main element in the central park of the Ropes Crossing development, adjacent to the main shopping precinct.
It was initially sketched by Lend Lease’s project architect, based on the appearance of the Hercules planes used by the airforce. This was in keeping with the site’s history with the Australian Defence Force.
We were involved from the beginning in design discussions, and carried out the engineering detailing. The shelter has a high level of detail finish. Of note are the mesh infill panels on the roof painted in different shades of green for visual effect.
The entire structure is painted in Micaceous Iron Oxide, and has lights strategically placed in the columns which light up the shelter at night.
