McKay Reserve, located on Sydney’s North Coast, is a breathtaking scene of lush green forest just moments from the crashing surf at Palm Beach.

Approximately 100 risers, the stairs are known to locals as the ‘Stairway to Heaven’. Consisting of painted steel framework and Australian hardwood treads & landings, the stairs blend in perfectly with the surrounding environment.

The natural gradient of the hillside and risk of land slips meant that considerable survey work and on-site measuring was necessary.

The timber treads were installed starting at the bottom of the hill, working upwards, and as the construction team progressed, temporary dirt steps were cut to allow access.

Completed on time and on budget, this project is a testament to Fleetwood’s ability to execute a potentially difficult project, successfully.
