Fisherman’s Beach, located on Sydney’s North Coast, is a spectacular environment, well known for its resident pelican population. As part of a local initiative to improve the facilities along the coastline, we were engaged to create access stairs that connected Collaroy Headland with Fisherman’s Beach.
We took the harsh corrosive environment into consideration, and chose to use Tallowwood, a very dense Class 1 Australian Hardwood, coated in natural Lanolin based oil, because it looks so good and lasts so well.
The stairs were prefabricated in sections at our manufacturing facility, taken to site and lifted into place by crane.
Each set of stair stringers terminates on a concrete landing supported from a central concrete column foundation. Because of the existing site constraints and the natural gradient of the hillside, the layout of the beach access was complex, requiring survey set out several times during construction to ensure that set-out points were accurate.
The stairs were completed on time and budget, and continue to provide excellent access for many pedestrians every day.
