Blacktown City Council wanted the Blacktown Showground to provide a community facility of which the local people could be proud of and could serve as a destination for regional tourism.

The redevelopment of the Blacktown Showground was a major Council project as it would need to serve the recreational needs of the community for many years to come. The Mayor of Blacktown City Council Len Robinson said after completion of the project: “The Blacktown Showground site has been transformed into a well-designed community facility”.

At Fleetwood, we were excited to win the contract to design, manufacture and install 21 shelters plus a 24m long shared cycle bridge. By using a standard Longreach™ product, amended in its design for an in-situ concrete deck, we were able to deliver a timely and cost-saving solution to the project requirements.

Fleetwood’s status as an approved LGP (Local Government Procurement) supplier under Contract 308.2 means we are pre-qualified for public works projects. This represents a significant saving for councils over the expense of the public tender process. Having worked with Council on previous projects meant that the proven partnership would deliver a quality product for the community.

Council’s Projects Superintendent Brad McArthur said: “Fleetwood have conducted themselves in a professional manner throughout the process, which ultimately delivered a great outcome and fulfilled Council’s needs on the project.”

This is high praise on a project requiring co-operation between multiple contractors and tight deadlines. Fleetwood delivered on its commitment as part of the project team.

Being part of an award winning project inspires Fleetwood to strive for excellence in working with Government bodies and our LGP status also saves them money and time.
