The design was to compliment the natural landscape of the Toolern Creek, with the structure being aesthetically pleasing whilst providing the wider Melton Community with enhanced and improved pedestrian and cycling connection to the Melton Botanic Gardens.
The desired Aesthetic was a ‘Natural’ look. Using a visually minimalistic approach ensured that the surrounding natural assets act as points of visual interest and focus.
Fleetwood’s design is based on our Balmoral™ bridge product, utilising low a profile bridge structure to lessen the impact on the surrounding vista.
Attention has been paid to the engineering parameters required by Melbourne water and the loads applied to the structure through a possible flood event.
Sustainably sourced Class 1 Australian Hardwood has been used throughout for the timber posts and decking material. All timber used by Fleetwood is sourced directly from the mills and detailed according to Fleetwood’s stringent design requirements.
Attention is paid to the finishing of the timber by waxing the end grains and oiling on completion. Timber that is detailed correctly will weather beautifully.
The balustrade design has been inspired by the vertical lines of the surrounding River Redgums, with the balusters being placed in such a way to mimic the lines of the swaying trees, to create interest and be as recessive as possible. The shape of the posts has been informed by the strength and the beauty of the Gums.
